The Crandall Cutlery Company Family pays homage to another key player in the early days of American Cutlery, Herbert Crandall. Crandall was married to W. R. Case's daughter Theresa, and was the largest stockholder in W. R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company. After operating Little Valley Knife Association, a jobbing (distributing) business, he opened a knife factory in Bradford, PA, just a few blocks away from the W. R. Case & Sons factory on Bank Street. Crandall Cutlery Company operated until 1911, when Herbert merged his operations with Russ Case at W. R. Case & Sons. In fact, as Case Legend John Osborne describes it, "Herbert Crandall really saved the day for Russ Case. When Harvey Platts left for Colorado to start Western States Cutlery, he took part of the factory with him." Crandall's knives were among the most beautiful ever made, and with Crandall Jigged Classic Green Bone handles on traditional patterns like the Seahorse Whittler and Tuxedo, so are these. Ten patterns make up this family.
